(York District Road Race League, 2009)

Pickering Running Club is a friendly group of 50 to 60 runners from across the Ryedale area of North Yorkshire in the UK. It is a twin-based club with a club house in Malton as well as in Pickering. A weekly club training run takes place on Thursday evenings at 7:15pm and the venue generally alternates between the vicinities of Pickering and Malton.

Anyone looking for a sociable environment in which to improve their running, or even get into the local fell and road racing scene, is welcome to come along to any of these training runs, or to contact us for more information. Please also refer to the testimonials page if you have concerns about keeping up with the pace.

The club meets for the 7:15pm Thursday training run all year round, come rain or shine. The precise venue and nature of the run is published in advance on this site on the Runs List page.

Over the summer months, the emphasis is on enjoying the local Yorkshire countryside which we are fortunate to have close at hand. Over the winter, runs are held in Pickering and Malton but varied by the use of speed and hill work.

The club exists to serve the best interests of all of its members regardless of ability. To this end, training runs are structured to ensure that all runners enjoy the session with slower runners being encouraged and quicker runners being pushed to achieve their potential.

The safety of members is paramount with high visibility clothing being worn when required and all members being accounted for at the completion of a training session.

In addition to running, Pickering Running Club members share an enthusiasm for other sports. The club also has a thriving social scene with members and partners taking part in a wide variety of events throughout the year.

Below is a video of the club's handicap race held at Norton in 2008. This relaxed event takes place once a year in the summer; a more competitive Club Championship event takes place later on in the year. (Video credits go to Richard Howell.)
