Cleveland Way Relay - What next?

deanwise's picture

Following on from the success, pleasure and cameraderie of the Cleveland Way Relay I have been wondering if there is anything the club can do to further running in North Yorkshire.

The Tabular Hills Walk is a regional long distance path running across most of ‘our patch’. It goes from Scalby Mills to Helmsley, joining up the Southern limbs of the Cleveland Way. It takes in sections of several  of our summer routes.

I have been mulling over for some time the idea that the club could host a relay race, organised much like the Cleveland Way Relay, open to all local clubs brave enough to put up a team.

The route is about 50 miles long and I have sketched out eight legs, from 8.5 to 11.5 km in length which should be run less than eight hours, possibly by mixed pairs of runners. I think a date in September or October, when there is nothing much on, would work. If the event started at 9.00am it should be all finished by 5pm and into The Feathers for a pint!

I am quite willing to work out a date and invite local clubs to participate but would like to know if there is any interest from our members first. Also if the club would like to sponsor trophies for the winning teams.

Please feel free to let me know what you think.

Dean

Hi Dean. You really are on a roll - another brilliant idea that if I could would love to be part of as I couldn’t make the Cleveland relay. Paul

Sounds like a great idea Dean and would be happy to help out in some way.  Sept/Oct sounds like a good idea too, potential for a bit of a weather challenge! On Sat, 29 Jun 2019, 19:57 deanwise, <admin@pickeringrunningclub.co.uk> wrote:(((
