Absolute Beginners

deanwise's picture

The club organised two very successful beginners courses several years ago, whilst they may not have attracted many new members to the club they did introduce over 150 people to running and we had over 100 people complete a 10 km Road Race as the summit of their course.

Organising the course gave members of the club the opportunity to participate in outreach, learn or develop skills and involve the club in the community which also significantly contributed towards club funds.

Today there are several other schemes available for beginners to try but I believe that our course hit the right notes in many areas.

Are there any members out there who would like to give this a go?

In  the past we had a small group of about 6 members who worked on the event planning with a team of about 16 members who led training sessions. I think that all club members who were involved in the process got a lot out of it including enjoyment and feel-good kudos.

If you are interested and feel you are able to contribute please let me know. If we do go ahead I would like to start planning in the autumn and perhaps deliver the course next spring.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them on this blog.

Dean

Re: [Pickering Running Club] New Blog entry: Absolute Beginners

The beginners courses were really successful and definitely a good thing to do. I would be happy to help but it depends as ever on transport for me and which night of the week it is. On Sat, 29 Jun 2019 at 20:13, deanwise <admin@pickeringrunningclub.co.uk> wrote:(

I have had a couple of people

I have had a couple of people ask recently about if we do anything at PRC, so I think there are people who would really appreciate this course.

I am not sure I have either the expertise or the time to commit regularly but I would be happy to help if I can.

Hi Dean

I think this is a brilliant idea for all the reasons you mentioned. I would be happy to help with this one. Paul

As a testamonial to encourage

As a testamonial to encourage others to help with this, I helped extensively on the first course and found it incredibly rewarding, inspiring and lots of fun.  I also met many people through participation who have become genuine friends (possibly more than 10); and curiously all of them are women!

I'd be delighted to help when I can, subject to work plans and other gallivanting.

Sound like a great idea - I

Great idea Dean, I was a PRC

Great idea Dean, I was a PRC beginner on the first course and as a thank you and becasue I wanted others to be given the opportunity that I had been given I was involved in the second course.

As far as I remember I still have a lot of the stuff on my computer that we used, so i will try and find it.

Count me in to help where I can :-)

Hi

I would be happy to help with the beginners group.
Are you thinking of Thursdays?
I don’t remember what the plan was previously
