Hello All
The website can now sends email notifications of blog entries and comments to all signed-up users. So, when you create a new blog entry or comment, it will be emailed out to everyone as well as being pubnlished on the site.
Each user can configure whether/how/when they want to receive these emails; see your My account page and the new Notifications tab. I have set each user already on the site to automatically be sent an email immediately a new blog entry or comment is created; however, you can change this if you want.
Note that all blog entries at the moment are visible to everyone visiting the website, even if they don't have an account. In this respect is doesn't quite do what Yahoo does which is private. We need to discuss how we want this to work before Yahoo is redundant (which seemed to be the goal from the last meeting we had).
There is scope to enable SMS and Twitter notifications in addition to the emails ones. I'll work on that... First problem is who pays for the SMS texts as I don't think they'll be free.
Let me know if you see this post on the website but didn't get the corresponding email.
Happy New Year!
Martin

Hi Martin
If Yahoo is to be redundant, should we also have a calendar on the website seperate to the runs list for races, weekends away etc?

Good point Peter. By Yahoo I meant the mail list server part of it. However, we can also look at substituting the other components over time such as the calendar. Cheers Martin

Emailing of blog entries is now optional
Just an update on how the emailing of blog entries on the PRC website works.
If you are writing an blog entry or comment which you don't also want emailed out, it is now possible when posting the entry to tick an option called Do not send notifications for this update (located below the text input box) which will prevent the email from going out. The new entry will, of course, be there on the website for people to see.
When I get the time I'll look at setting up a forum for doing private club messages, and a calendar.
